Our Assessment: Introduced by Colt as a lighter-weight version of the 1911, the smaller size of the Commander was popular and soon they were offered in a number of variations including different frame materials and calibers. While the original development centered on an aluminum-frame 9mm as a candidate for US Military post-war officer’s pistols, the steel frame Commanders such as this one are what most people think of when they think of “The Commander”. This Commander is a recent production model with the same basic design as a 1911-A1, but with a Commander “ring” hammer and shorter 4 1/4″ barrel. It would make for a great carry pistol chambered in the powerful .45 ACP cartridge. The pistol is in Excellent condition showing very faint operational wear in the trigger and grip safety’s finish. It comes with its original Colt box, ready for carry or collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
