The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Several have damaged small portions of the surface wood. The bottom of the grip is marked with ink and shows sanding marks. The front handguard is a replacement that has a different finish than the rest of the wood. The butt has paint residue on it. The LOP measures 13 1/4 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Good to Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The grooves are grey. The rifling is deep; less pronounced at the muzzle. There is fouling and erosion in the grooves. The fouling should clean up a bit. The bore shows an M.E. of more than 5. Our gauge tops out at 5. The throat shows a T.E. of 4.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish as refinished. The receiver and receiver legs have surface erosion showing through the finish. The metal shows scrapes, scuffs and small scratches. The most prominent marks are on the gas tube. The right side of the receiver and front of the bolt show some light thinning from cycling. The receiver markings are somewhat faded. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a reproduction U.S. Navy Mark 1 Training Bayonet & Belt Scabbard. The base of the blade is marked “O.L. / flaming bomb / U.S. / 1943” on one side and “CHINA” on the other side. The scabbard is marked “U.S. inside a flaming bomb”. The bayonet & scabbard show a few scuffs & light handling marks. They are in about Excellent condition.
The rifle has a green canvas sling attached. The canvas shows discoloration, soiling and light fraying on the canvas. It also shows small scrapes on the metal. Overall the sling is in about Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: This WWII Springfield Armory M1 Garand was made back in 1944. After WWII it saw service in a U.S. friendly country. The rifle was eventually imported back into the U.S. for sales to the civilian market. Luckily the import mark is very small and is easily overlooked. The rifle has been rebuilt using mostly Springfield marked parts. The rifle has also been refinished. The rifle comes with a sling and a reproduction sword bayonet.
