The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “UP arrow DOWN arrow / BATTLE triangle RANGE”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The left side of the stock (above the trigger) is marked with a “boxed” Springfield cartouche “S.A. / N.F.R.” (page 134). The face of the grip is marked with a faded “circled P” proof. The right side of the but is marked “U / 18” and the top of the butt is marked “70”; these appear to be rack numbers.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The buttplate shows small scrapes & small scratches. The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Several have damaged small portions of the surface wood. The left side of the stock shows filled surface repairs. The LOP measures 13 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Rebuild

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright; semi bright near the muzzle. The grooves near the muzzle are light grey. The rifling is deep. There is fouling and intermittent light erosion in the grooves near the muzzle. The fouling should clean up some. The bore shows an M.E. of 1.2. The throat shows a T.E. of 2.5.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. The metal shows scrapes & small scratches. The top of the barrel shows an area of small dents, small scratches and thinning.  The receiver shows light discoloration. The receiver legs show a small amount of light thinning. The bottom metal shows discoloration. The gas tube shows thinning along the bottom edges. The markings are deep. The right side of the receiver and front of the bolt show thinning consistent with cycling. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Certificate of Authenticity. It lists the rifle’s serial number and a “February, 2000” sale date. It shows some light creasing and light soiling. Overall certificate is in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition. The rifle also comes with an M1 Garand manual. The cover shows soiling, mostly on the rear. Overall it is in about Very Good Plus condition.

Our Assessment: This M1 Garand was originally made back in 1944. It was eventually rebuilt but still uses all Springfield parts. In 2000 it was sold by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) and comes with a CMP Certificate of Authenticity. This 77 year old Military rifle was most likely put to good use during WWII. It will add to your collection.
