The refinished buttplate has small scratches and some pin prick surface erosion showing through the new finish. It shows scrapes. The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Several have damaged small portions of the surface wood. These marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. The front third of the bore is intermittently semi bright and light grey. The rifling is deep. There is fouling and intermittent erosion in the front third of the bore. The fouling should clean up some. The bore shows an M.E. of 3.4. The throat shows a T.E. of 3.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. Some of the small parts were refinished during the rebuild. The metal shows scrapes & scuffs. The barrel shows several small scratches. The bottom metal shows a freckling of surface erosion. The receiver shows discoloration. The receiver legs show a small amount of light thinning. The markings are deep. The right side of the receiver and front of the bolt show thinning consistent with cycling. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: This Springfield M1 Garand was made back in 1945. The rifle is considered “matching” as the parts use the correct drawing numbers for the rifle’s serial number. We do not know if the rifle is “all original” as some of the small parts have been refinished. The rifle “may” have been assembled with the correct parts. Either way, this is a good looking M1 Garand that is ideal for a collector.
