Our Assessment: Stevens has manufactured single shot pistols that have become world famous for their accuracy, finish, workmanship and durability. The No. 37 pistol is one of the most practical models ever designed as a hunting sidearm and has been sold in every part of the world. It has a comfortable grip, clean trigger pull, and sufficient weight in frame and barrel for extremely accurate shooting. They were good and Annie Oakley had one that looks just like this with a blued barrel, gold frame, and pearl grips. This one is marked “May Clinton”, she was an exhibition shooter and traveled the world doing shows an dlikely wanted hers to be just like Annies. Information is scarce but she is mentioned by name on page 419 of a November 24 1900 article of “Forest and Stream” that details her European tour. This Stevens No. 37 Gould is chambered in .22 Long Rifle and was made between 1898 and 1907. It has been refinished and has a nice history, it will be a great addition to any collection and will be fun to shoot too! Please see our photos and good luck!
