Trigger Group: “6528290-SA”- Correct for the serial number (page 90 of Joe Poyer’s M1 GARAND 1936 to 1957, 6th Edition).
Hammer: “SA D5546008”– A Springfield part. This part appears to be original and falls close to the “estimated” serial number range listed (page 98).
Safety: “SA-11” – Correct for the serial number (page 103).
Follower: “11” – Used by Springfield & Winchester (page 83).
Receiver Leg: “T 3 A”, and “F 6528291” – Appears correct for the serial number range provided (page 29).
Op Rod: “6535382 SA” – Correct for the serial number (page 71).
Barrel:“P” (3 places), “T”, “SA F6535448”, “4 55 MD 49”, and with a Defense “Eagle” Acceptance Stamp – A Springfield part (pages 63 – 65).
Bolt: “6528287-SA / A-10” – Correct for the serial number (page 53).
The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “NI C” on the edge.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The face of the grip is marked with a “circled P” proof. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked with a Defense “Eagle” Acceptance stamp.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The buttplate shows small scrapes. The right side of the grip and the right front of the forearm show small areas of scrapes & compression marks. The wood shows a few other small scrapes & light handling marks. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The grooves near the muzzle are semi bright. The rifling is deep. There is a small amount of light frosting at the muzzle. The bore shows an M.E. of 0.5. The throat shows a T.E. of 1.5.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The finish shows light scrapes & scuffs consistent with storage & handling. The right side of the receiver shows some light thinning consistent with cycling the action. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:  The rifle comes in a green hard plastic case that is marked on both sides with “stars & stripes”, “CMP / www.theCMP.org”, the CMP seal “stars / eagle holding arrows”, and with other information. The interior of the case has foam pieces that are intact. The case has 4 latches and 3 reinforced locking holes. The case shows scrapes, scratches, and a few small spots of discoloration. It is in about Fine condition. The rifle comes with a “Certificate of Authenticity” from the “CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM”. It lists the rifle’s serial number and “Model: M1 Garand SA Unissued”. It is in about Excellent condition. The rifle comes with an M1 Garand owner’s manual. It shows light creasing & light discoloration. It is in about Fine Plus condition.

Our Assessment: This Springfield M1 Garand was purchased through the CMP as an Unissued M1 Garand. It comes with a CMP Certificate of authenticity and a CMP hard case.
