Markings: The upper tang is marked “REMINGTONS, ILION, N.Y. U.S.A. / PAT. MAY 3D NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866 / AUG 27TH 1867 NOV 7TH 1871″. The top of the chamber is marked with “F / * / 54”. The left side of the chamber is marked “B”. The left side of all three barrel bands are marked “B”. Both sling swivels are marked “PAT. FEB 11TH 1866”. The left side of the stock is stamped with an “HBH” cartouche.

Barrel Length: 36”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an inverted “V” blade set on a square basea fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a folding ladder and escalator sight with a “V” notch in the down position and in the up position there is a “V” notch in the top of the ladder and a wide “U” notch in the slider.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock set is walnut with a straight grip, straight comb, carbine style buttplate, metal nosecap, and three barrel bands. There are some scattered dings, compressions, scracthes, and a few scrapes, the majority have darkened with age. A high concentration of these defects are on he right of the forend at the receiver. The heaviest scrape is on the right of the butt at the rear. Some of the scrapes are from sliding on and off the barrel bands. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate has oxidation, some erosion, and some scabs. The stocks rate in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with some light wear to the rifling, but the edges are distinct and easily seen. There are some small spots of very minor erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 50% of its metal finish. The barrel was left in the white, numerous combinations of finishes were made on these New York Models. The hammer and breechblock super both have the checekred three arrow shield that was used on these models. The receiver has mottled patina with some light surface oxidation and a few dings. The hammer and breechblock have some pinprick erosion and surface oxidation. The barrel bands have some scrapes, light erosoin, some scabs, and patina. The bright barrel has some scratches and some scattered spots of dark discoloration from previous oxidation and some light surface oxidation that is fresh. The barrel has some pinpricks. The screwheads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. The rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly and as designed, this Rolling Block has a unique safety. The user pulls the hammer to the full cock position, retracts the breech block spur to expose the chamber, and inserts the cartridge. When the breech block closed, the hammer automatically falls to the half cock position, and the weapon cannot be fired until the hammer is once again pulled to the full cock position. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
