Action Type: Top-Break Single-Shot Rifle with Trigger Activated Barrel Latch

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “J. CUTLER FULLER SHANGAE [sic] / PAT’D OCT 25 1859 & NOV. 11 1862”. The serial number is marked on the guard, the water table, the barrel retaining bracket, and the left of the barrel.

Barrel Length: 24″ Octagonal

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a folding sight in a base screwed to the rear of the barrel. One position presents a “V”-notch marked “100 YDS”, the other position has a “V”-notch at the top marked “500 YDS” and another notch at the bottom of an aperture marked “250 YDS”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The buttstock is a one-piece walnut with straight grip and a blued-steel buttplate. The stock has scattered nicks, dings, scrapes and scratches. There are a couple of minor losses and a very short crack at the rear of the bottom tang. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has gone to a light patina with scattered wear. Overall, the stock is in about Very Good-plus condition as Antique.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is gray with well defined rifling. There is light erosion scattered through the bore and some pitting in front of the chamber.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 30% of its metal finish. The exposed portions of the barrel have mostly gone to a light patina with scattered light scuffs and scratches. The bottom portion has some bluing remaining interrupted by operational wear. The frame has some scattered verdigris, most notable in the trigger guards and around the edges of the sideplate, and some nicks, scuffs and scratches. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Very Good condition as Antique.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrel is released with the front trigger only when the hammer is at half-cock. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
